Christine
I suffered with migraines for 20 yrs. The last 10 yrs I had one almost everyday. 7 yrs ago I had a partial hysterectomy. The migraines kept coming. 3 months ago I had a complete ovaries and all. Guess what migraines have almost completely stopped. I may have had 1 in 3 months. It worked for me even though I had it for different reasons. My life is so much better.

Wow its so strange that you feel so alone when you suffer like this and then you read all these posts and they could be you.
I am now 36 I have bad headaches from the time I could talk turning into migraines around puberty and increasing in intensity ever since.
I opted to have a hysterectomy 1 year ago. i knew it wouldn't necessarily fix my migraines as I choose to keep my ovaries which is where some of the problems were really coming from.( I wasn't ready to go into menopause just yet) Luckily I have two beautiful but busy young boys aged 5 and 7 so the decision was easier for me. The operation was full on but the benefits for me have been enormous in that I now don't have to set aside 1 week a month to staying at home hoping I am not actually bleeding to death.
The finality of a hysterectomy is absolute and you will have moments of loss and sadness, but for me the reality of the bleeding plus 2 weeks of migraines a month meant that I couldn't have coped with having any more children in the state I was in anyway.
As for the migraines now its so hard to tell, I can have a spell where I don't seem to have anything for a week maybe even two and then suddenly I will get struck with a week of them again.
I would have to say that is so much more managable without the bleeding and constant anemia aswell. I also relish the times now where I don't have a headache. The problem I am now faced with is that I would love to go back to work but I feel I can't commit to anything because of my migraines. I don't even like to commiting to a social event just in case.
Any drugs I have tried make my head feel like its going to blow off then I get so drowsy etc. I have to go to bed anyway. I constantly feel like I am letting my family down.
Both my children are at school now so i am going to dedicate some time to trying to improve things. It seems to be a life long search so far. Fingers crossed!!!

Hi girls,
came across all this by accident searching for info on the drug iv been on for for 6 months now (does me wonders!) topamax, i suffered from what i thought were just awful headaches for 20 years. left me in bed for days..no doctor could help, told me to take more panadol and drink lots of water really. did the usual search for tumour, tried glasses blah blah... but when i was 19 i had a seizure in the bath after dozing off accidently and sent me 2 hospital.

turns out id been suffering nocturnal seizures all my life, but because no1 ever saw them and they would get worse around the time of ovulation, as they do caused by hormones, no doctor thought about it...just that this silly teenager wasnt getting enough sleep and was perhaps hungover. only an EEG while i was asleep and triggered (kept awake for the previous 36 hours could show it!

something for some of you girls to think about maybe??

god knows my parents and i never thouight i was epileptic growing up :) all drugged up n happy now tho.
good luck to you all. i hope this helps at least 1 xox

Hi Everyone :-) I'm Lisa, 34 and have Grade 4 Endometriosis which is now in my bladder and I need reconstruction of the bladder and my right ureter (tube from kidney to bladder. I've had a number of surgeries, and in the past few years I have begun to suffer horrible migraines, which I never had before, I even rarely suffered from a head ache. Only now have a pieced together that Endo and Migraines are connected!! You'd think that all the Dr's I'd seen over the past 5 years may have been able to tell me that. I get the aura, and have lights and also up to 60% blind spots, for the first time this week I had a vomitting migraine, I thought I was dying and called 111. So I'm pleased to have found this site, and read all the experiences people have had with different medications etc. I look forward to reading more! Take care everyone! Lisa

update......on the corgard/amitriptiline combo. one month no migraine (just lucky?) however I did get my regular 3 plus an extra day for good measure migraine this September. also a slight migraine for 3 days at ovulation. Have upped both meds at Drs. approval. Have a pretty good feeling this med combo won't do the trick either. Back to square one!!!!!

Wow, what a site and amazing reading!! Why havent I found this site before being that I live here!! I had a car accident when I was 18yrs old and got my first migraine around 6mths later. Have had them for 20yrs now (38yrs old). Thankfully they are very irregular, I could have 3 a year or 10 a year (at least). I used to always run off to a chiropractor when I felt one coming on, seemed to fix it, or I would get my hubby to lift me. Over the past couple of years that hasnt helped. Went and saw neurologist 2yrs ago and he prescribed Imigran. They work, but boy the side effects arent fun at all. But I would rather have side effects than the migraine. I have aura migraines, the full monty, 70% blind spots, numb down left side (including face), confusion, cant string a sentence together or think at all. The last one (till tonite) was a month ago and lasted 7hrs which for me is quite long. Due to the yuk side effects of Imigran I dont rush to take it but tonight I did. It stopped the migraine but had me on the couch for the next couple of hours with tight chest, fatigue etc anyway. I will certainly be keeping hysterectomy in mind if they become more frequent as we cannot have children anyway after 14yrs of infertility, IVF's galore etc. We adopted our 2 children who are now 11 & 8yrs old. We've never "stopped" pregnancy from happening as we've always held hope, but now we are pretty much over it so would certainly have hyst.

Ive not really kept a record of what could be my triggers, its only this time that Ive noticed its been exactly a month since last migraine, Ive just finished period a couple of days ago. Will definately keep an eye on that.

Ive always been scared also that they will cause on a stroke, I am also a smoker (its my only vice, dont drink).

Anyway, Im so glad I have found you all and will be keeping tabs on this site regularly :)

Reading your stories just caused my heart to break and I found myself praying for you all. I have a friend who was pretty much house bound with migraines and depression for years. Her life was changed dramatically when she found a nearby clinic that used neurofeedback. I looked it up and here is the link. There is also testimonies from fellow migraine sufferers and how it helped them. http://www.neurotopia.com/page_migraines.html
